General medicine, also known as primary care medicine, is the patient’s main connection with a medical doctor. The primary care doctor is the main doctor that a patient will visit when they have any kind of health problems or concerns. They address common concerns, help the patient maintain their ongoing health issues, and be there for urgent care when it is needed.

General medicine includes virtually all types of illnesses. In cases like these, the primary care doctor will refer the patient to a specialist who can perform that type of surgery. After the surgery, the patient would still return to their primary care doctor for all ongoing care. The specialist and the primary care doctor will work as a team to make sure that the patient receives the best care possible.
